Description
Dal, sometimes also known as dhal, dahl or daal, is a typical Indian dish made from pulses - often lentils, but sometimes peas or beans are also used. And the consistency is just as varied: it ranges from a relatively liquid soup to a kind of stew in which it is still quite easy to recognise what has been cooked. But no matter how you cook it, dal is always a flavourful highlight and super tasty.

2 onions
15 g ginger
4 Clove(s) garlic
1 Tablespoon(s) turmeric powder
50 ml oil
1.5 Tablespoon(s) curry powder
0.5 Tablespoon(s) paprika powder, coriander(ground), cumin(ground)
0.5 Teaspoon(s) smoked paprika powder, pepper, cardamon(ground)
150 g dates
600 ml coconut milk
600 ml chopped tomatoes, tinned
800 ml vegetable stock
320 g red lentils
2 Tablespoon(s) soy sauce
salt, limes, (vegan) yoghurt, fresh coriander

Prepare the dal

Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onions, chopped ginger and garlic.

After a short time, add all the spices and sauté.

Deglaze with the coconut milk and stock, add the dates, bring to the boil and then puree.

Add the tinned tomatoes and finally the lentils.

Cook the lentils in the spiced stock, stirring regularly, and season to taste with soya sauce and a little salt.

Serve with fresh yoghurt, lime and coriander and some bread.
