Especially in times of crisis, we should cook together to save money!

In this guide, we give you useful tips and recipes with which you can shop for and prepare varied dishes even on a tight budget. It doesn't have to be the indefinable frozen pizza from the discount store. You'll quickly realize that delicious and healthy food doesn't have to be expensive.

6 tips for cooking and baking cheaply

1. Use satiety for cooking

There have been many crises to overcome over the last 100 years. The effects were always omnipresent and even back then meant that people had to think twice when planning the meal. There was also much less food and you had to make do with what was there. Food was used that provided a lot of energy, was inexpensive and at the same time filled you up. To this day nothing has changed. Due to the high amount of fiber, Kartoffelnpotatoes, whole-grain pasta and brown rice are still the best ways to fill you up. These basic ingredients fill you up, are cheap and are part of many recipes.

2. Buy seasonal vegetables and fruit cheaply

In addition to the fillers mentioned, a daily portion of fruit and vegetables is also important. To save here, you should only buy seasonal products. So basically everything that is currently being planted and harvested here. For example, in spring/summer you can get asparagus, potatoes, peppers, apples, tomatoes and zucchini cheaply and in autumn/winter you can get pumpkin, beets, cabbage, beetroot and much more. Sometimes you can even buy groceries cheaper at regional stalls than at discount stores. Sometimes you are even offered the opportunity to go harvesting in the adjacent field for a discount. We can say from our own experience that this can be worthwhile and is also really fun. The only thing nicer is growing it yourself.

3. Reduce consumption of meat

DerAvoiding meat not only benefits your wallet, but also the environment. And fortunately, there are a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes (you'll also find them in our recipes below). You don't have to eat meat every day. Then the good meat such as fillet, neck or shoulder tastes even better on Sundays or holidays!

If you find it difficult to avoid meat during the week, minced meat with the right seasoning is a tasty and inexpensive basis for cooking many recipes.

6. Cook cheaply with leftovers or freeze them

Experience has shown that there are always leftovers when cooking. Throwing these away would be a waste. Instead, you should try using them to make a tasty stew or casserole. Anyone who has ever made a pound pot from leftovers knows how delicious it can taste.

You can also put any leftovers in a stainless steel lunch box and freeze them in your refrigerator. This means you have the option of defrosting them again at any time if necessary.

Tip: You will always come across delicious recipes that also contain more expensive ingredients. In such cases, your creativity is required. Try to find replacements for these ingredients and modify the recipe accordingly. This has resulted in many delicious compositions.
